Cracked grout in a corner is usually a movement joint problem and can be fixed. Cracked grout across a field, hollow-sounding tile, or tiles that move are signs the tile has lost its bond or the substrate behind it is wet — and those are rebuild conversations, not regrout conversations.

A failed shower pan usually shows up as a floor that flexes underfoot, loose or hollow floor tile, staining on the ceiling or wall below, chalky deposits at the grout, or water that pools instead of draining. Once the pan is compromised, patching the surface does not stop the water.
